Candle Care 101
HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR CANDLES-
Candles of any size, shape, or scent are beautiful additions to any home and can brighten an entire room as well as make your day a little brighter! We at Three Suns have put together an easy-to-follow guide so that you may have the best possible experience with your candles.
FIRST BURN RULE
When you receive your new Three Suns candle, let it burn long enough to allow the melted wax on the surface to reach the edge of the jar. This may take 2-4 hours depending on the size of your candle. Allow additional hours for those larger vessels that have a larger surface area.
We recommend burning your large and mini candles for no longer than 2 hours at a time (after first burn) and our tealights for a maximum of 2 hours at a time to maintain quality, longevity and safety. Once your candle has 1cm of wax remaining, we recommend you switch to your next yummy candle! 💕
CANDLE PLACEMENT
To maximise your candle experience, make sure to place your candle in a draft free environment and that the candle is placed close to the center of the room. Position the candle on a stable surface and ensure there are no shelves, drapes, curtains or any other items above the candle flame.
SAFETY 101
We invest a significant amount of time testing our candles to the highest quality standards. We do not recommend placing our candles or tea-lights inside another jar, container or any other decorative object. Doing so may significantly change the burn rate and may result in changes to performance or safety of the product.
CANDLE STORAGE
Candles love the dark! We always recommend storing your candles in a cool, dry, and dark place. Storing candles in direct sunlight or harsh indoor lighting for long periods of time may cause them to fade or warp. Even though all our candles are white, this is still a good tip to follow! Each candle a recommended shelf life of 12months.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR WICKS
Trim them! This is a crucial part of candle care that, if not followed, can potentially be a hazard. You want to aim to keep your wick about 0.5cm This will allow for a more even burn and will help prevent the wick from mushrooming or creating soot.
If the wick is not trimmed, the flame of the candle may grow too large and begin to smoke or flicker, which are signs that the flame isn’t properly controlled. If this occurs, simply extinguish the flame, wait for the candle to completely cool, and trim the wick with either a wick trimmer or scissors. Failure to trim wicks before each burn can lead to excessive wax pool depth, impacting wick stability.
CLEANING YOUR CANDLES
If dust forms on the surface of your candle, be sure to clean it off before lighting. To do this, use a soft cloth that is either dry or lightly dampened with water.
SNUFF IT OUT
A candle snuffer is recommended when extinguishing your candle. However, blowing out your candle works, too (just be careful not to splatter the hot wax!)
Three Suns strives to bring a magical and enjoyable candle experience to your home! But once the candle leaves us, it still needs to be handled with care. I hope that this short guide has helped you better understand how to care for your candle and has answered some of questions you may have had. Follow these tips, and your candle will surely reach its full potential from start to finish!
TEALIGHT SAFETY
Our tealights are designed to be used in an open tealight holder or a well ventilated oil burner or melter that always allows adequate airflow around the flame.
Please note the following important safety guidelines before use:
Our tealights must never be placed inside any enclosed, narrow, or restricted space where airflow around the flame is limited. This includes enclosed lanterns, small decorative vessels, jars, or any container where the opening is smaller than the base of the tealight cup itself.
When using our tealights in an oil burner or melter, please ensure the burner has a fully open top with adequate space around the flame. The tealight should sit freely with at least 2-3cm of open space around it on all sides. Burners with narrow openings, enclosed sides or restricted ventilation are not suitable for use with any tealight, regardless of brand.
We invest significant time testing our products to the highest safety standards. However, the performance and safety of our tealights can be significantly affected by the type of holder or burner they are placed in. Always ensure adequate airflow before lighting.
Never leave a burning tealight unattended and always place on a
stable heat-resistant surface away from flammable materials.
